Another in the series of weekend city breaks

A Weekend in Paris

Friday-night frolics

For the city’s dreamiest view, head to Montparnasse tower at sunset – Eiffel Tower and Sacré-Coeur. Then it’s off to Prescription Cocktail Club (23 Rue Mazarine) for a nightcap.

Montparnasse Tower; Paris.

This ominous stick is a blight on the landscape of the world’s most stunning city, but there is one very good reason to take in the view from the building’s observation deck: it’s the only place you can go to get a view of the city without it.

Sensual Saturday

Only Paris could have a museum dedicated to ‘La Vie Romantique’ (. Set in a rose-adorned garden, it’s full of dainty paintings and pretty music.

Sexy Saturday evening
To see Le Tout Paris (jaw-dropping views and clientele), dine at Georges, the super-cool restaurant atop the Centre Pompidou (; mains around £18).

Sunday Brunch

Oval lamp shades and salt-shakers pay homage to the big attraction at Eggs and Co (11 Rue Bernard Palissy) – eggs, any which way, served up under homely timber beams.

Sunday afternoon

Wander from Jaurès metro along the misty Canal St Martin to Place de la Bastille, then stroll along the Promenade Plantée, a former railway track turned urban park.

Getting and staying there.

Try the sultry and sensual Hotel Gabriel Marais (00 33 1 4700 1338; doubles from £200, room only). Eurostar (08432 186186, has returns to Paris from London St Pancras, from £69.
